DESCRIPTION

The ALTEC LANSING Model 14712A is a dual channel power limiter module providing loudspeaker protection by limiting the output power of an amplifier to a predetermined level. This power level is selectable by internal switches from 0 dB to -10 dB referred to the amplifier's rated output power. The 14712A also features three selectable attack and decay times: fast (above 500 Hz), medium (full range), and slow (below 500 Hz). The 14712A provides these selectable response times to aid in protecting low- frequency woofers as well as high-frequency compression drivers. The 14712A is designed with the feedforward approach eliminating the possibility of oscillation with high compression ratios as in a feedback design. This design approach also allows the response times to be program-dependent preserving a more natural sound. The versatility of selectable power level limits and response times allow more flexibility in using the 14712A for a countless number of applications.
