Cardioid microphones have an off-axis null along the direction of the shank of the microphone. The Altec Lansing D645 is a super-cardioid and it has a conical rejection pattern with 30° skirts around the shank of the microphone. The result is greater rejection of offaxis sounds than a cardioid. This permits excellent performance in feedback-prone systems, and in systems where audience or studio noise must not be amplified or broadcast. Anywhere that a microphone on a gooseneck must reach across a lectern, or a microphone in a footlight shoe must reach across a stage, and pick out an expressive voice accurately, the Altec Lansing D645 is the microphone of choice. It also selects the voice presented along its axis and rejects audience or studio noise, or feedback components, arriving from the rear. It also reduces, gracefully but effectively, non-voice bass sounds. The D645 is perfectly optimized for this everyday application.
