CABLE CONNECTIONS The 654A Microphone is shipped with the cable wired for balanced operation. To change cable wiring for unbalanced operation, connect the black lead to the shield with a jumper wire at the amplifier end of the cable. The cable supplied with the microphone is provided with an XLR-3 type audio plug on the amplifier end of the cable. If conversion to a standard phone plug is desired, unsolder the wires from this plug and re-solder the wires to the phone plug. Solder the black lead and the shield together at the sleeve terminal of the phone plug. NOTE: The shield (pin 1) of all Altec Lansing microphone cables is strapped to the XLR shell (pin 4). The shell can be easily isolated from the cable shield by simply cutting away the strap at both ends.
The microphone shall be of the cardioid type with a dynamic moving coil cartridge. The cartridge shall be shock mounted. The microphone shall meet the following performance requirements. Frequency response, 50-15,000 Hz. Output impedance, 2000. Output level, -56 dBm/10 dynes/cm2. Average front-to-back discrimination, 20 dB. Hum, not greater than -120 dB (Ref.: 10-3 gauss), provided by hum-bucking coil. The largest diameter of the microphone shall be 2 " and the length of the housing shall be 7'/4". The housing finish shall be non-glare matte satin nickel. The microphone shall be furnished with a separate swivel-type, snap-on stand adapter, and 25 feet of 2-conductor shielded cable with a standard 3-pin audio connector on each cable end. The microphone shall be the Altec Model 654A cardioid microphone. |
