DESCRIPTION
The 1588B microphone preamplifier features low noise characteristics, high sensitivity and power output and is easily mounted in an octal socket.
The Altec 1588B Microphone Preamplifier is a sealed, plug-in solid-state module with a transformer-isolated input and low noise characteristics. The built-in transformer provides a balanced and isolated input for maximum protection from RF and other stray fields normally induced on low-level microphone lines. The entire unit is encased in mu-metal to provide effective protection from stray magnetic fields, with magnetic shielding of 90 dB for the input transformer. The equivalent input noise is equal to or better than -124 dBm. The gain is variable from 20 dB to amaximum of 33.5 dB by installation of a user selected resistor. Frequency response is ±1 dB from 30 to 20,000 Hz. Input impedance is 200 ohms and is designed to accept signals from source impedances of 150/250 ohms. The output has an internal source impedance of less than 10 ohms and is designed to drive loads of 600 ohms or greater. Operating power can range from +12 VDC to +20 VDC. The 1588B will deliver +9 dBm to a 600 ohm load when operated at +12 VDC and will deliver +14 dBm to a 600 ohm load when operated at +20 VDC. The total harmonic distortion (THD) is less than 1% within a frequency range of 30 to 20,000 Hz with a 600 ohm load when operated at + 20 VDC.
